From Charlie Gray:

Our area here in the Triangle recently got a dusting of snow. We had just over an inch in my neighborhood. Snow is a novelty for us here in the south. It’s an interesting addition to our wacky weather patterns. I’m just fine as long as I can navigate the path to my backyard workshop.

My neighborhood is heavily wooded and the roadways are shaded by the overlying canopy of trees. Our terrain is also very hilly and rolling and the roads are curved and steep. Navigating my neighborhood is quite challenging when snow visits our area. The white stuff disappeared in a few days but some hung around. The snow remained longer in the dark shady areas of the road. These areas are hidden from the light of the sun.

I was reminded of the biblical metaphor of God as light against the darkness of our troubled world. Yes, we all have spaces in our lives hidden from the light. Our worldly nature tempts us to go places where the “light” doesn’t shine. Darkness in our lives appears similar to the snow that covers our landscape. It is the light of our faith that illuminates our path and empowers us to overcome the darkness.

Matthew 5:16 empowers each of us to “let our light shine before others, so that they may see your faith giving glory to our Father who is heaven”. Like life itself, enjoy the snow when it falls but watch out for shady areas.
