From Charlie Gray:

The true music dynamic duo for those of my vintage were Daryl Hall and John Oates. From 1974 through 1991, these guys put 50 songs in The Top 40. Six of them were number one hits. My playlist today remains chocked full of those songs. Most of their tunes were written by Daryl Hall.

As I have matured ( grown old ) I tend to pay closer attention to the lyrics of songs. When I was younger I was more into the beat if you will. Just the other day I was listening to a tune by The Dynamic Duo titled "Some Things Are Better Left Unsaid". The song was written in 1984 and was a hit on their "Big Bam Boom" album. The lyrics are more relevant today than ever.

"Looking at a darker day. I’m pulling the shades away from my eyes. Some things are better left unsaid. Some strings are better left undone ……. some hearts are better left unbroken". Continuing on, "Some lives are better left untouched. Some lies are better off believing ….. some words are better left unspoken".

It’s really a shame. It’s actually quite silly, if it wasn’t so serious, how our political environment is so segmented and divided. As a US citizen, I am many times embarrassed that our elected leaders cannot meet each other and cross the aisles of politics. They commit to do such, because it sounds good, but no one makes the first move.

Homes and churches are divided by dinner table discussions around politics. Relationships are strained and often broken. Is it really worth it? Yes sometimes things ARE better left unsaid. YES sometimes it’s better to believe a lie than to hurt others in what you believe to be the truth. I would suggest that Jesus would concur with brother Daryl’s reference to "pulling the shades away from our eyes" because some hearts ARE better left unbroken.

If you think you have won a political based argument but hurt someone’s feelings in the process, then YOU are the real loser. Keep your mouth shut and your heart open.
