I was recently invited by a friend to "lead worship" at a senior care center where she worked. I certainly didn’t want to say "no" to a friend but quickly reminded her that I could not and did not sing. My pipes don’t produce a joyful noise. She chuckled and assured me that she would handle the music. She did a great job with that. We all sang "Jesus Loves Me". It was great.
Romans 12:1 reminds us that true worship is not just expressed through music, but through a surrendered life where every ordinary act becomes sacred when offered to God in love and gratitude. I’m certainly thankful that I got that pass. Be reminded that worship isn’t a moment, it’s a mindset. Worship is personal, lived out daily in our choices, service and unspoken obedience. Worship is how we act and think. It’s a divine and constant, wholehearted act of thankfulness for the mercy shown to us by Jesus.
If you can sing, let it rip. But for those of us who can’t, remember that God hears the rhythm of our hearts. It’s important, particularly for the unchurched, not to view worship as complicated. Praising God should be found in simplicity, not in elaborate rituals. Worship is not about an outward performance for others to see. It’s about divine connection, not public display.
I was blessed that day in the time God provided for me to share my testimony to a wonderful group of my elders. It was awesome especially since I didn’t have to sing. Thanks again Jesus for the pass.
