Our word offered up for consideration today is expertise. This word refers to having an expert skill or knowledge in a particular field. I guess having expertise makes you an expert. I will suggest that we all want to be an expert in something. I was aware and quite humbled by my lack of expertise just last week.

I broke the lens in a favorite pair of sunglasses. I liked them too much to toss the frames in the trash so I ordered new lenses. I read the instructions on how to install the new lenses. That didn’t prove successful so I watched several T-tube videos which provided no relief. Hating to admit my lack of expertise, I mustered up the courage to ask Donna to make an attempt. Guess what ??? She lacked the expertise as well. That was a relief because she would have never let me forget if she could have pulled it off. It’s like that around my house !!!!!

After many frustrating attempts and dealing with the anxiety of breaking the frames, I headed to my optometrist office and they popped them in. Thank you Johnson Optometric. Yes, they had the expertise. They possessed the knowledge and experience that I lacked. They also were equipped with the appropriate tools and equipment to get the job done.

I’m wearing my sunglasses and I have some good news for you. Jesus does not require any expertise to "follow" Him. He has no prerequisites or certification. Jesus makes it crystal clear in Romans 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth and believe in your heart, eternity awaits you. Further assurance is found in John 3:16 reminding us that all who believe in Him shall not perish. I do not imply that following Jesus is effortless but he requires little on the front end other than our hearts.
