From Charlie Gray

I was blessed last week to be part of a conversation where a dear friend shared how he had experienced an transformative type encounter that had radically regenerated his faith. Call it a divine epiphany if you will but my friend has been shaken. I have known him for forty years. He has been a friend I deeply admire and can always count on. When I left the conversation, I was convinced that good things were gonna happen.

Reminded me of a conversation I had with my cardiologist once when he described all the crazy symptoms that people misconstrue as a heart attack. Many times his patients were only experiencing some indigestion or bloating. Not sure about you, but I’m not taking any chances with my heart. What I suggest is that my friend last week had a heart condition. God had laid something very significant on his heart and my friend had the courage to act.

So many times we mistake a calling from God induced heart attack for just worldly indigestion. Many times we are called to places and things, by God, that we choose to ignore. Rolling up our sleeves and going to work for the Kingdom is just not convenient at the time. Or better yet, we don’t have the confidence as a disciple of Christ to carry the torch. Let me remind you that Jesus chose twelve ordinary men, fishermen and tax collectors, and turned their weakness into strength. Their ordinariness became a force that forever changed the world.

I can assure you that God is calling. Our world is in a mess. The answers and directives have been laid out clearly in bold text. All we need to do is pay attention and commit to something far bigger than ourselves. My friend challenged his audience last week to "knock the dust off our bibles" and be stoked about engaging in solutions instead of being absorbed by the problems. Divine advice offered – divine advice accepted.
