For the past fourteen years, the first Monday in October has been ALL about one thing …. the BANDED BROTHERS golf tournament. This is event sponsored by a group of men from the Fuquay Varina / Cary area is held to raise money to assist others less fortunate. It’s all about that mission ….. the golf just sets the stage. This group has been together since Hurricane Katrina.
Since our group was formed, many of us have traveled to Africa, Costa Rica and Bolivia bringing financial aid and man power assistance to those in need. We have purchased a hyperbaric chamber for a Cary teen, built wheelchair ramps, infant burial cradles and provided annual scholarships for graduating high school students to attend college. We have purchased cars and computers, paid medical and burial expenses. We have supported back pack programs for school kids and elderly care center programs for seniors.
Along the way we have accomplished significant things. We have met and befriended strangers. We have gathered in flooded homes alongside flood victims. We have cut and delivered firewood to folks in the winter and provided fans to those struggling with the heat in the summer. In all that, our greatest accomplishment is having raised hundreds of thousands of dollars. We owe that success to ALL the folks who have supported our group along the way.
The fundamental drive that holds us together is however more about what we don’t do. We don’t operate by means of a bureaucratic, red tape process. We don’t have employees on a payroll or a highly compensated CEO. We don’t have administrative costs funded by skimming off the top our donations. Every penny of every dollar received through donations since day one, has been laid in the hands of some one in need.
Thanks to all who made our 2020 campaign a great success. And by the way, “thanks” in advance from the many who will benefit from your compassion and generosity !!
